Capt. John Werner

Cutting his teeth on Stripers in New York a couple decades ago, Capt. John relocated in search of warmer waters back in the 90s. John has spent so much time in the lowcountry salt marsh since then that it's been rumored he can directly communicate with the Redfish.

Capt. John's enthusiasm for fishing is unparalleled. A guest commented, "We'd just spotted a school of redfish in a feeding frenzy, and for a moment there, John was so wound up I thought he was going to jump into the water and start collecting them by hand!" A fishing charter with Capt. John is truly a memorable experience.

Capt. John's primary focus is flats fishing aboard Stingray, a Yellowfin 17 Skiff, and inshore fishing on Hammerhead, a 25 Sportfish.

Capt. John's Charter Fishing Boats:

Stingray — Yellowfin 17 Skiff

Check out the flats and inshore waters aboard Live Oac's Stingray. This Yellowfin 17 Skiff offers a fantastic ride and the ability to get into super skinny water where the redfish like to hide. This skiff is one of the most comfortable, driest riding flats boats in the Lowcountry, and features a broad fore deck, poling platform, Power-Pole® Shallow Water Anchor, Lowrance electronics, and a Minn Kota trolling motor with GPS sync.

Poling and sight fishing on the Stingray is ideal with one or two anglers. For other trips, she can accommodate 3-4 passengers max depending on size. Call to discuss your particular group and we'll make sure you're getting the best match.

Stingray is co-operated by Live Oac Captains John Werner, Travis Meissner, and Blair Willis.

Hammerhead™ — FJ&S 25 Sportfish

Inshore Charters on Live Oac's Hammerhead target several species seasonally, including Red Drum, Black Sea Bass, Cobia, Tarpon, Spanish Mackerel, Weakfish, Bluefish, Spotted Sea Trout, Crevalle Jacks, and many types of Sharks.

Equipped with quality fishing tackle including conventional reels from Truth and spinning reels from Shimano, paired with custom rods from Connley Fishing and others. You'll be well outfitted with reliable gear when you're fishing on Live Oac's Hammerhead.

I saw the plug land perfectly just beyond the edge of the school, but then came the real surprise. A monster wake came from the other direction, from about 40 feet away, and bee-lined right for it. BAM! You would have thought we threw a steak in front of a lion, the way he took that thing under!
